We are very excited to organize our iconic HTB University CTF for the third consecutive year. We are prepared to welcome all universities around the world to compete with exclusive content and, of course, learn while having fun!

In order to ensure fair competition and a smooth registration process, we've made some changes from the previous years' editions. Please make sure to read the instructions below to successfully join University CTF 2021.

Creating an Account

To begin the registration process, navigate to ctf.hackthebox.com/uni-ctf-registration and login with your CTF Platform account. If this is your first time on the CTF Platform, then you'll want to hit Register and create a new account.

If you choose to create a new account, you'll receive the option to join an existing team or create a new one. You can skip this option for the moment if you'd prefer. Please note, however, that in order to participate in any CTF you must be part of a team. If you choose to delay this, make sure you join a team at a later date.

A banner will pop up to remind you of this if you have yet to join a team.

Registering as a Student

The next step is to register yourself as a student associated with a university. On the CTFs page, a banner will be displayed with the prompt HTB University CTF 2021 is now open!

Click on the Register button to begin your student registration.

You will be asked to enter your academic email address. Enter it in carefully, and be sure not to make any typos.

After clicking Verify, we will immediately send you an email with a four-digit verification code. Enter the code into the verification popup.

Next, you may be asked to select your University from the drop-down list. This will associate the domain name used in your academic email with a university.

If this option doesn't appear for you, don't worry- all that means is that someone else from your university has already completed this step and it's no longer required.

Troubleshooting the Verification Process

In order to be verified, your email domain address must match the university you choose from the list. There are two cases in which you might not be able to get the verification:

  1. Your University is not in the drop-down list.

    1. All participating universities need to be enrolled with Hack The Box. Enrollment is a free process that can be done with a few clicks. You will need to have the Authorization Registration form we provide reviewed and signed by a faculty member. Click here to enroll your university.

  2. You selected the wrong university from the list.

    1. In this event, simply choose the correct university from the dropdown list and re-request verification.

For information regarding registration or creating and joining teams, see the following article:

If you still find yourself unable to get registered after following all of the above steps, you can reach out to Support via the chat bubble in the bottom-right of the website. If you don't see this, you may need to disable any ad or script blocking you have.

Join the University CTF

After verifying your university, you'll need to either join or create a team if you haven't already (see the article above). You'll then be able to join University CTF by clicking on Join CTF next to Uni CTF 2021 Quals in the CTF list.

Only Team Captains will have the Join CTF option enabled. If you are a Team Captain, it is your responsibility to join your team to the CTF. If you aren't a captain, your responsibility is to make sure your account is verified with your university and that you are joined to the right team.

Please note that all Team Members need to be verified in order to participate in UniCTF. If you have any unverified members when you attempt to join the CTF, you will receive an error. Team Captains have the ability to remove unverified members from their Team if needed.
